Experienced burglars know to get in and out as quickly as possible and cops know it’s probably a false alarm anyway, so by the time they show up, it’s usually too late. In the event that a real crime has happened, they will get there after the fact to take down all the details and file a report.

This is the best way to go because if it’s a real break-in or, heaven forbid, a criminal who means to do you or your family harm, such as a home invasion, then you can relay that information to the police when you make the call and they will likely take that much more seriously than they would if it were a routine burglar alarm call.
